Third Model Dragoon

This is the Third Model Dragoon in the series. It is somewhat smaller and lighter than the previous models. It was by far the most manufactured of the Dragoons series and was produced until 1860. It is a forty four caliber ball.

1851 Colt Navy

The brace of 1851 Navy Colts was by far the best of the cap and ball series. It was produced for 23 years from 1851 to 1873 when Colt introduced the cased shell.

Skilled machinists machined the rear of the cylinder taking off the cap pins and providing room to insert the case shell.

It was a 36 caliber, in between the 44 and the 31 caliber. Its 7 1/2 inch barrel made it very accurate for those who could shoot. It was Wild Bill Hickock's favorite. It was used by lawmen and outlaws alike.

Again Texas was instrumental in its production because the fighting at that time was between the Navy of Texas and Mexico hence not the 1851 Navy Colt.

After the war with Mexico the land grants were identified. Stephen F. Austin was trying to settle an area with people from Western Europe. Germany, Czechoslovakia and Poland had the largest population. Austin was having trouble with the Indians on the northern and southern boundaries. Everyone came to Texas because there was no law and order. Because of this, Austin had the need to organize a group of Rangers to patrol these boundaries. When Texas became a Union and organized a police force, it became the Texas Rangers.
Among the US cavalry memorabilia are officers spurs, belt and holsters and saber trappings. An authentic cavalry saber and bugle, a wooden canteen and an officers field hat are also included in our collection.
